Matt Towery explains real reason Democrats projected so much ‘vitriol’ at RFK Jr this week

Daily Caller News Foundation

Pollster Matt Towery said Thursday on Fox News’ “Hannity” that Democrats are “so very concerned” because Americans overwhelmingly support Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA).

During a Senate Finance Committee hearing on Thursday, Democrats tore into the HHS secretary for criticizing certain agencies and vaccine recommendations for children. Others called for his resignation. Fox host Sean Hannity asked Towery to comment on the HHS secretary’s approval rating.

“Yeah, the reason you saw all this vitriol today from the Democrats, there’s a good reason. I want to add some other numbers to this, Sean,” Towery said. “That same poll found that 73% agree with MAHA’s effort to eliminate dyes from foods, artificial dyes. Seventy percent support RFK and [Republican Kentucky] Senator Marshall’s effort to have soil regeneration, make soil safe again for agriculture. And that 73% like the president’s [and] RFK’s reinstatement of the president’s physical fitness test.”

President Donald Trump brought Kennedy to lead the administration’s MAHA movement. Kennedy has since secured major wins for the president.

In April, the administration announced its push to end six petroleum-based food dyes, or certified color additives, from the food supply by the end of 2026. By July, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a fourth natural food color and created a new website in August for families to track the actions of companies pledging to phase out color additives.

With Kennedy also taking on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) over its handling of COVID-19 and vaccine recommendations, Towery went on to discuss how Americans feel about vaccine safety.

“Now, if all of that is so popular, then, you ask, why are they so concerned? Let me give you a few other numbers on vaccine safety. Fifty-seven percent say vaccines are safe in this country,” Towery said. “The rest aren’t sure, or they believe they’re not safe. COVID vaccines, 54% think they’re safe, but the rest either think they’re unsafe or not sure.”

“Now, you’re going to try to get people to take a vaccine where you have barely a majority of this country believing it’s safe. President Trump said, ‘Give us the information so we can finally show people these vaccines are safe,’” Towery added. “They haven’t done it yet. And that’s the reason there’s so much confusion and why Robert Kennedy is on point at this moment in what he’s saying. And it’s why the Democrats are so very concerned.”

Despite Democrat pushback against Kennedy, recent polls have consistently shown strong voter support for him and the MAHA movement.

According to a June Axios-Ipsos American Health Index poll, 87% of respondents said the U.S. should do more to make its food safe, including updating nutritional guidelines, adding labels to foods with artificial dyes, and reducing pesticide exposure. With food safety concerns high, 57% of Americans said chemicals or unsafe additives in food pose a large or moderate health risk.

In addition to support for MAHA’s efforts, CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten said Thursday that Kennedy is the “most popular” official in Trump’s cabinet, holding a -7 net approval rating — higher than Vice President J.D. Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
