INGERSOLL: What Is A Democrat Nowadays? Allow Me To Illustrate

With that, we’re going to talk a bit about Dems. What are they?

 

WHAT IS A DEMOCRAT?

It was a bit of a watershed moment, but it was subtler than it appears.

Bill Maher’s Real Time invited both Chris Rufo and Andrew Huberman on the show a few weeks back, along with NYT reporter Frank Bruni. For those of you who don’t watch and are unaware of the format, generally it goes, one lefty, one righty, and one celeb or quasi celeb guest, in this case Huberman.

I’m not going to get into exactly what Huberman and Rufo said (although Rufo took on the growing case that Nixon actually did nothing wrong, except for resigning!), this is more about what these men represent.

Rufo has gone from relatively unknown researcher to a nationally recognized reporter and activist. His cause du jour, in the fewest words possible: Annihilate “diversity, equity and inclusion” from every aspect of society and restore a merit-based system. No more quotas for race, gender or sexual proclivities.

He’s done a fine job of that.

Huberman, at the same time as Rufo rose, became a hugely popular wellness coach and social media influencer. His message is simple: It’s hard work, but you can actually take control of your health and fitness.

As it happens, left-wing media desperately tried to destroy both men. Their messages ran counter to what wider hard-left messaging was attempting to impose on the American population.

Namely: Racial/gender/sexuality quotas are good, actually; fat is beautiful, fat is healthy, fitness and self-improvement is “right wing” fringe thought about self determination.

The fact that both men appeared on a highly popular HBO show and reality didn’t immediately implode and people generally praised them is horrible news for Democrats.

The problem for them at this moment in national politics is their signature issues run far astray of human instinct. Add “American” as an attribute to those humans, and Democrats get even further astray.

Allow me to illustrate.

What is a Democrat, currently? What do they stand for, what are their bread-and-butter issues? Can they be written out in a coherent, unifying worldview? Do they have a coherent identity?

What issue do they have that’s popular? Democrats used to say crime isn’t an issue. When it became apparent that it was, and their policies were to blame, they turned to criticizing security forces on the ground who set about restoring the peace.

Immigration is no “crisis.” When it becomes wildly apparent that it is, they spend their time harassing the agents charged with cleaning up the mess.

Trump and Rubio take on unfair trade policy that exploits Americans, Democrats worry that he might offend China and Europe.

Tulsi Gabbard fires corrupt spooks, they rush to the defense of surveillance and suppression. Elon Musk fires Twitter’s censors, they worry that Nancy in Idaho might rethink COVID vaccines.

Oh my, oh no, Americans thinking freely!

Hegseth says the military should go back to projecting strength in all things. Is there a Democrat counter to that? No, they shouldn’t? More fat girls in the Navy SEALs please? Let’s teach critical theory to Army cadets?

The problem for Democrats is twofold. When expressed in clear terms, their causes are unpopular. Secondly, put together, they don’t present a unifying vision. 

Everything should be free or nearly free and America should order itself as a caste system of immutable traits, also low-skilled foreigners should be able to come here in as many numbers as they want? Oh by the way, let’s export our domestic energy decision-making to a collection of foreign elites in Paris? Hey, let’s make Chinese solar panels a requirement. In the meantime, we want grade-school teachers to do blocks of instruction on race, gender and marginal sexuality?

If it sounds insane, that’s because it is. It’s schizophrenic. The only unifying word that comes to mind doubles as the most annoying word in academic circles: Deconstruction. We want to deconstruct merit, national borders, domestic policing, and even the notion of biological reality.

Good luck running on deconstruction in ‘28, you guys.

The biggest issue Democrats face is that it’s all so instinctually wrong. You’d have to literally deprogram the most basic instincts of human beings, as well as the national tendencies of Americans.

They tried, and it looks like thankfully they failed.

Modern Americans know in their bones that using race as a factor for hiring is wrong. They know that teachers talking to small children about homosexuality is wrong. Teachers and schools keeping secrets from parents is wrong. They reflexively know that importing millions of low skilled illegal immigrants is highly risky. They step on the train and know that the guys openly doing drugs in public are dangerous. They know that being fat is unhealthy and unattractive. Schoolchildren walking by open-air drug markets and people doing fentanyl is both shocking and wrong. Police arresting bad guys is good. 

Trump killing terrorists is also good. Terrorists should be dead and criminals locked up? Is there a contrary argument to that? Believe it or not, Democrats right now are actually making that argument!

Huberman and Rufo are the one-two punch antithesis of left’s incoherent worldview.

Their message is the backbone of American populism. Merit matters. You can take control of your life and your destiny. You can lose the weight. You can earn the job. You can become healthy and successful if you work hard and make the right choices. What’s more, America is great because it’s the best place in the world to do all these things.

And what is the left’s response? No you can’t? Not without us? Health isn’t about lifestyle, it’s actually about racial oppression? DeShontel is morbidly obese because of slavery and not her orders at Waffle House? Here now give your kids these 37 vaccines because Big Pharma said so. Now castrate one of them. 

Human beings want more than just hope, they want agency and the means to flex that agency to its highest potential. Americans especially.

What Democrats offer is deprogramming instinct, deconstructing reality, and a replacement of the American dream with a DMV kiosk number.

You’ll wait your turn for deprogramming, America.

No, actually, I don’t think we will.
