Media fumes when Paramount eyes deal with ‘anti-woke’ firebrand who survived leftists’ wrath

The left’s most notorious propagandists are furious that Paramount is considering installing classical liberal firebrand Bari Weiss at CBS News.

Recall that Weiss resigned from The New York Times in 2020 after being pressured out by the paper’s radically leftist staff.

She went on to start The Free Press, an actual newspaper that produces actual journalism that isn’t steeped in the sickening, propagandist bias that the Times and other establishment outlets are known for.

Years later, The Free Press is now swimming in traffic, while traditional outlets like the Times are gradually perishing.

This brings us to a report from Puck News published Wednesday revealing that newly installed Paramount CEO David Ellison is considering BUYING The Free Press and giving Weiss a role at CBS News that would task her “with guiding the editorial direction of the division.”

This news has triggered apoplectic-type fear and doom from the left’s most notorious propagandists, including Oliver Darcy, who used to spew his propaganda for CNN before starting his own propaganda newsletter.

“David Ellison vowed not to politicize Paramount — yet his first big move at CBS News is a major bet on Bari Weiss, one of the most polarizing figures in media,” Darcy wrote in his newsletter Wednesday. “Darcy began his newsletter on Wednesday night. “Weiss, the stridently pro-Israel, proudly anti-‘woke’ culture warrior, has built her brand on polarizing political commentary — supposedly the type of material Ellison signaled to reporters that he wishes to run away from.”

“Handing Weiss the keys won’t broaden trust — it will further erode it among the people who actually watch the network, reinforcing suspicions about Ellison’s agenda. In effect, the move will set CBS News on a course to squander its hard-earned credibility with the audience that reveres its history and demands it stand unbowed to power,” he added.

The irony was rich.

Darcy is himself seen as an extremely polarizing figure who was chided in 2023 by then-CNN CEO Chris Licht for delivering an “emotional” screed attacking his own employer for daring to commit the supposed crime of airing then-GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump’s town hall.

The guy is so partisan that he couldn’t understand why a major news network would air the town hall of a top presidential candidate.

He’s also so partisan that after Trump was nearly killed during an assassination attempt last year, Darcy started complaining about how Republicans are the true threat to “American democracy.”

Just two days after Trump was nearly assassinated, CNN anti-speech activist Oliver Darcy is telling media outlets to incite their audiences with evidence-free claims that Republicans are a threat to “American democracy” and the very “fabric of the country.”

Next up is Jack Mirkinson, the senior editor of The Nation, a veritable communist rag.

“If we lived in a less terrible time and place, Weiss would be dismissed as a crank and a bigot, and never heard from again,” he wrote for the outlet on Thursday. “But we live in the waking nightmare that is the United States in 2025. So instead, Weiss is being rewarded with a prize that even she must think is kind of wild. That prize? CBS News.”

“Whatever CBS News currently is, it isn’t just some hate factory pumping out shoddy propaganda 24/7. But now it’s being shipped over to one of the leading hateful propagandists of our time. I hope that CBS News staffers resist this attempt to destroy their workplace with everything they have. I hope that Weiss’s tenure atop CBS is short and failed. But mostly, I hope that one day we live in a world where people like Weiss are treated with the contempt they deserve and are hurled into the cultural wilderness where they belong,” he added.

Taylor Lorenz, the leftist hatemonger and propagandist who celebrated alleged killer Luigi Mangione, also complained about Puck News’ story.

“The right wing grift economy is undefeated,” she tweeted.
