In a surprise move that nobody expected, several top gun rights groups have come out against President Donald Trump’s trans gun ban, including even the National Rifle Association (NRA).
“The NRA supports the Second Amendment rights of all law abiding Americans to purchase, possess and use firearms,” the organization said in a statement published to social media on Friday.
“NRA does not, and will not, support any policy proposals that implement sweeping gun bans that arbitrarily strip law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights without due process,” it added.

Gun Owners of America (GOA), another top gun rights group, issued a similar but much briefer statement on Thursday.
“GOA opposes any & all gun bans. Full stop,” the group wrote on X.

Meanwhile, Dudley Brown, the president of the National Association for Gun Rights, posted several tweets complaining that the task of adjudicating certain people as “mentally defective” for a gun ban “is a judicial branch function, not an executive branch function.”
“As a matter of federal law and Constitutionally required due process, only a Title III COURT can adjudicate” such matters, he explained.
“This process — and only this process — is available today as it may apply to transgenders or to any American suffering from mental health issues, but taking rights away from any American without due process is an affront to the Constitution,” he continued.
He also warned that rules enacted today to target transgender people will surely be twisted in the future to target other people as well.
As history proves, any new rules the government invents today will be abused against ill-favored communities, including conservatives and law-abiding gun owners, tomorrow.

Our advice to the ATF, DOJ, and FBI is to stop chasing headlines on the back of the Second Amendment and focus on preserving and protecting gun rights so that law-abiding Americans can defend their loved ones from violent nutcases, criminals, and gang members.
End

Kostas Moros, the director of legal research and education at the Second Amendment Foundation, has also come out against the ban.
“I think every major gun rights org has now spoken against this trans gun ban idea,” he tweeted Friday. “To the extent it was a trial balloon, we all hit it like a clay pigeon.”
“Hope that’s enough to get the Admin to drop this bad idea, and get back to their work defending the Second Amendment, on which they have thus far done an excellent job,” he added.
These statements come days after reports emerged that the Trump Department of Justice is working on a plan to bar transgender Americans from owning a gun on account of clear-cut mental illness.
Preventing transgender people from owning guns is designed “to ensure that mentally ill individuals suffering from gender dysphoria are unable to obtain firearms while they are unstable and unwell,” a Justice Department official said, according to The Independent.
“The DOJ is actively evaluating options to prevent the pattern of violence we have seen from individuals with specific mental health challenges and substance abuse disorders,” a department spokesperson added.
The plan is supported by a large number of Republicans, many of whom were quick to bash the NRA and GOA, among others, for coming out and lobbying against the trans gun ban.

You will defend psycho trann-Es more than you ever did for me. Typical.

I’m sorry but if you’re a male being pumped full of female hormones you should NOT have weapons. You’re unstable

I’m a long time supporter but if you are delusional enough to think you are something you aren’t you ARE mentally defective.

Stuff like this is the reason that guns will eventually be banned or at least heavily restricted. When you’re incapable of saying mentally ill cross dressing pedophiles shouldn’t have access to firearms, you’ve lost the plot.

Adding a small subgroup of mentally ill people to the list of prohibited people under the prohibited from owning firearm category of mentally defective people is not a sweeping ban. As a longtime dealer, I absolutely support this.
