What is happening to the game I love?
It was a much-anticipated high school football contest between Nevada powerhouse Bishop Gorman and Utah force Lone Peak, but unfortunately for fans, the game ended up getting cancelled early following a third quarter-altercation that saw referees nix the action. The Gaels were given the victory in a forfeit.
With 9:25 remaining in the quarter, Bishop Gorman was up big, 35-14, and moving up the field to score again. But that’s when things popped off on the sideline of Lone Peak, which came after Gorman completed a long bomb. The incident resulted in over three players from the Knights running off the sideline and on the gridiron. Following a long talk between referees, they decided to cancel the game and rewarded the Gaels the win in a forfeit. Ranked No. 2 in the nation by USA Today, as well as No. 3 by MaxPreps, Bishop Gorman is now 2-0 on the season.
Per a ridiculous rule from the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, if over three players remove themselves from their sideline during an altercation, the game automatically gets scratched. It was ruled by the zebras that Lone Park was in violation of the NIAA’s nonsensical rule, while not a single Gael made their way into the action.
