‘Democrats Have Walked Into A Trap’: Brit Hume Calls Trump’s Approach On Crime ‘A Political Winner’

FOX News’ chief political analyst Brit Hume said on Fox News Monday that Democrats have stumbled into President Donald Trump’s political trap.

The Trump administration launched “Operation Midway Blitz” in Chicago and across Illinois to target illegal migrants shielded by sanctuary policies. During a panel discussion on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Hume said Democrats have struggled to respond as Trump pushes aggressive crime-fighting measures.

“I think that the Democrats have walked into a trap that the president’s approach on crime has set for them just as Dasha suggested,” Hume told host Bret Baier. “This crime issue is one where people want to see it stopped, ended, suppressed.”

Hume said Trump’s crime crackdown resonates with voters who demand safer streets.

“They want to feel safe in our urban areas, in particular, but elsewhere as well. And to the extent that what the president is doing is bringing that about, it’s going to be popular,” Hume said. “And, obviously, there’s some legal niceties that concern some people. But that aside, I think it’s pretty clear this approach on the president’s part is a political winner.”

The Trump administration, after carrying out major immigration sweeps in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., has set its sights on Chicago. In August, the Department of Homeland Security asked Naval Station Great Lakes to provide logistical and infrastructure support for the operation. Democratic Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson have pushed back aggressively, saying they will resist any expanded Immigration and Customs Enforcement presence. Johnson, who has mounted a steady media campaign against the move, signed an executive order on Aug. 30 instructing the city to use lawsuits and legislation to block federal immigration or National Guard deployments.
