Popular ’80s artist Boy George is stepping into the debate over comedian Graham Linehan’s arrest.
Linehan’s arrest at London Heathrow airport went viral when it was revealed he was taken into custody for making anti-transgender social media posts. The Irish comedy writer didn’t let the detainment put a damper on his speech, though, and showed up with a sandwich board bearing the sentiments “Keep Men Out of Women’s Sports” and “There’s no such thing as a ‘Transgender Child’.”
The shocking arrest, which took even Prime Minister Keir Starmer by surprise, sparked a great deal of conversation surrounding freedom of speech. Now, Boy George is weighing in, saying Linehan has a “morbid obsession” with transgender people, and sarcastically asking if he’s supposed to “feel sorry” for the man’s arrest.
Look:
Are we supposed to feel sorry for a grown ass man with a morbid obsession with ‘trans’ people? Graham Linehan is a joke. Just like all the other obsessed fools. https://t.co/cIPBO22er4

He defended his take in the comments when people took issue with it:
Who doesn’t love a conservative drag queen? @TheMrMarilyn is putting on tea and cakes for you. Interested? Lol! JK is coming but dressed as a man. It’s all very fruity.

When you are talking about something that does not concern you I think you are just wasting the chance to say something inspiring. https://t.co/6nWZZi9Dqx

Others simply don’t like the way the current political climate is headed:
We don’t arrest people for their opinions or their choice of lifestyle (when their lifestyle does not harm others) in a free society.
But then that begs the question is the Uk a free society?Or are their police now the brutal arms of a group that has been given the freedom to…

Or are their police now the brutal arms of a group that has been given the freedom to live a lifestyle and now wishes to prevent all others from the freedom to criticize the harms that lifestyle is inflicting upon others? Who is the one obsessed in this situation anyway?” wrote one X user.
