A fatal hit-and-run in a Florida trailer park resulted in the arrest of six illegal aliens from Guatemala.
A 911 call early Sunday morning prompted an urgent response from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. Once they arrived at the Willow Oak Mobile Home Park, they discovered a 21-year-old man deceased in his home, with injuries “consistent with being run over by a vehicle.”
During the subsequent investigation, it was discovered that the unidentified man had been hit on Saturday night while attending a party at a nearby trailer. It is said that “nearly everyone” attending the gathering was consuming alcohol.
One witness who spoke to detectives revealed that the man had been lying down in the trailer’s driveway when 52-year-old Ponciano Cinto-Ramirez allegedly got into a van and reversed, driving over the 21-year-old. He then fled to another lot in the park, reportedly #32, despite partiers trying to flag him down and tell him what he had just done. Cinto-Ramirez went into a trailer on the lot and stayed there.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old was dragged back to his own home and placed inside, though police have not released any details on how that happened or who was involved.
When deputies went to the lot where the suspect had reportedly fled, they discovered “several people inside” who refused commands to exit the trailer.
“Eventually, one by one, they came outside but refused to give deputies information or cooperate,” the sheriff’s office said, adding that two of the men gave them fake identifying information. It wasn’t until later that deputies learned that all six of the men were in the country illegally from Guatemala, a fact that enhances their current charges.
More from Fox News:
Cinto-Ramirez was charged with resisting arrest, driving without a license causing death and leaving the scene of a crash involving death. All three charges are felony counts.
Rigoberto Lopez Morales, 22, and Jacinto Lopez Morales, 46, were both charged with resisting arrest.
Alfredo Cinto-Ramirez, 48, and Leonel Cinto Lopez, 24, were both charged with resisting arrest and giving false information to law enforcement. Ramiro Cinto Lopez, 23, was charged with those same two charges and possession of an altered firearm.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd also revealed that the men are being held on an ICE detainer, and will “hopefully” be deported to their home country.
“What started out as a neighborhood party ended up with a 21-year-old man dead and a group of illegal aliens going to jail,” Judd quipped.
