Gambling Investigations Into 13 Athletes Across 6 Colleges Confirmed By NCAA

The NCAA acknowledged Thursday that an investigation is currently ongoing into 13 student-athletes formerly with six universities for possible betting activity in the sport of college basketball.

The U.S. government is also involved in the investigation, according to OutKick. The NCAA named the colleges included in a statement.

“While a number of schools have been identified in media reporting, current ongoing cases include student-athletes formerly associated with Eastern Michigan, Temple, Arizona State, New Orleans, North Carolina A&T and Mississippi Valley,” noted the NCAA. “Additional cases are in various stages of the investigation process.” (RELATED: Three Men’s Basketball Players Permanently Suspended By NCAA Following Gambling Probe)

It was announced Wednesday by the NCAA that three ex-college basketball players have been permanently suspended due to their alleged inclusion in sports betting activity.

An investigation by the NCAA discovered that Steven Vasquez and Mykell Robinson, roommates at Fresno State in the 2023-24 campaign prior to Vasquez transferring to San Jose State, had allegedly been manipulating games together for profit. Jalen Weaver was also a participant, according to officials.

The NCAA will not be issuing a release of the student-athletes’ names that are featured in the investigation announced Thursday, but the amount of schools involved is triggering questions regarding if they will receive punishment or not, something that the NCAA clarified in their release.

“As with the previously resolved cases, the schools and respective school staffs in the ongoing cases are not alleged to have been involved in the violations by student-athletes, and the enforcement staff is not seeking penalties for the schools themselves for the student-athletes’ conduct.”
