Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) is facing backlash after delivering a profane and unapologetic tirade against conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated last week during an event at Utah Valley University, as reported by The Independent Journal Review.
According to the New York Post, Omar spoke to progressive outlet Zeteo, where she openly mocked tributes to Kirk and dismissed characterizations of him as someone who promoted civil debate.

“There are a lot of people who are talking about him [Kirk] just wanting to have a civil debate,” Omar said. “These people are full of sh*t and it’s important for us to call them out while we feel anger and sadness.”
Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA and a prominent advocate for free speech on college campuses, was fatally shot in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday.
His death drew national attention and tributes from across the political spectrum, including statements of condolence from President Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, and members of Congress from both parties.

Omar, however, did not join those offering sympathy. Instead, she used the moment to criticize Kirk’s past positions, accusing him of minimizing the death of George Floyd and opposing the federal recognition of Juneteenth.
“There is nothing more f*cked up than to pretend that his words and actions haven’t been recorded and in existence for the last decade or so,” she told Zeteo.

The Minnesota Democrat also alleged that Kirk had used “hateful rhetoric” on social media and suggested that tributes mourning his death without addressing his political stances were disingenuous.
Her comments came amid heightened national tensions following Kirk’s killing.
Federal and local security officials have stepped up protective measures for high-profile conservative figures in the aftermath of the assassination, while leaders across the country have called for a renewed focus on civility in political discourse.
Kirk’s death has been met with public tributes from not only political figures but also cultural institutions, including sports organizations such as the New York Yankees.
His influence as a speaker and activist had extended well beyond politics, with students, athletes, and conservative groups crediting him for encouraging open debate and defending First Amendment rights on campuses nationwide.

Omar’s remarks stand in contrast to the bipartisan condolences offered elsewhere, with critics accusing her of exploiting a moment of national mourning to launch partisan attacks.
Her comments have sparked outrage among conservatives, further underscoring the divisions in Washington and across the country in the wake of the assassination.
