USA Cycling issued a statement Friday distancing itself from former athlete Chelsea Wolfe after the transgender BMX rider posted celebratory remarks on social media about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Wolfe, who served as an alternate for the U.S. BMX team at the Tokyo Olympics, drew backlash for comments shared on Instagram following Kirk’s killing earlier this week.
“The views of current and former national team athletes are their own and do not reflect those of USA Cycling. Chelsea Wolfe has not been a member of the USA Cycling National Team or a member of USA Cycling since 2023,” the organization said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
On Instagram, Wolfe reshared news of Kirk’s assassination with the caption “We did it!” and included a selfie suggesting Kirk was a “Nazi.”
In a separate post, Wolfe wrote, “Being a Nazi is completely optional btw. He didn’t have to do all that, but he did and now he’s dead. Don’t live your life in a way that the world is better following your death.”

The posts prompted widespread reaction across social media.
This is unacceptable on several accounts. First, this person is a terrorist. Second, it’s a man who competes with women.
Do something about this, @TeamUSA. https://t.co/fQvpLwEVz7

Wolfe later appeared to acknowledge the criticism, posting a meme on Thursday night that read: “Your boos mean nothing. I’ve seen what makes you cheer.”
This is not the first time Wolfe has been the focus of controversy.
In March 2020, Wolfe wrote on Facebook: “My goal is to win the Olympics so I can burn a U.S. flag on the podium.
This is what they focus on during a pandemic. Hurting trans children.”
At the time Wolfe was named an alternate for the Tokyo Olympics, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) had a gender eligibility policy that allowed biological males to compete in the women’s category.
That policy has since changed. In July, the USOPC updated its athlete safety guidelines to indicate compliance with President Donald Trump’s “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports” executive order.
USA Cycling also announced a revised policy earlier in September.
It now restricts women’s competition to “a person belonging, at conception, to the sex that produces the large reproductive cell.”
The controversy surrounding Wolfe comes as law enforcement continues its investigation into Kirk’s assassination.
The Turning Point USA founder was shot and killed Wednesday during an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem.
Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed Friday that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson has been arrested and charged in the case.
Robinson was taken into custody after a 33-hour manhunt led by the FBI and Utah law enforcement.
FBI Director Kash Patel said investigators made “historic progress” in tracking down the suspect so quickly.
Cox called the shooting a “political assassination.”
He said investigators recovered a rifle believed to be the murder weapon, containing ammunition with anti-fascist messages inscribed.
According to Cox, one spent casing and three unused rounds carried the markings.
Kirk’s death has drawn national attention, with federal and state officials calling it a deliberate attack motivated by ideology.
President Donald Trump announced Thursday that Kirk will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously. Funeral arrangements have not yet been released.
