A heartfelt plea vying to capture the attention of the president went viral Friday with hopes of enshrining a “great legacy” for the late Charlie Kirk with a law aimed at corporate media.
Since the political assassination of the young father and husband — dubbed a civil rights leader by radio host Glenn Beck — messages aimed at galvanizing into a unified coalition for positive change have continued to spread. On Friday, this included one woman imploring President Donald Trump to lead an effort to undo the Obama Administration’s amendment of the Smith-Mundt Act and more with the passage of a new “Charlie Kirk Act.”
“Alrighty, this message is for President Trump and his administration. If you stay to watch the video, please tag him down below, share and repost so we can try to get this to him as quickly as possible and hope that he can do something with this,” began the video that had garnered over two million views from just one X account that had shared the message from the woman who indicated she’d voted for Trump three times.
“I am hoping and praying that you will revisit what [President] Barack Obama and [Vice President] Joe Biden got rid of back in 2013, which is the Smith-Mundt Act, which held news corporations accountable for lying to the American people and spreading propaganda instead of truth,” she continued. “I think instead of bringing it back as a Smith-Mundt Act, you name it the Charlie Kirk Act, you make it a law, and you make it damn near impossible for these people to continue to lie to the American public, which has brought chaos, hatred, division, and anarchy all across this country.”
PLEASE LISTEN
I am tagging just as she asked, and I would ask all of you to please repost and tag …this needs to be done ASAP!@POTUS @realDonaldTrump pic.twitter.com/V1xOhMJGyS— Maddie Evans (@EstieMaddie) September 12, 2025
“Fines out the a**, which will damn near bankrupt their company should they lie to the American people ever again,” insisted the woman who described herself as “Just a mom looking to make a difference one person at a time.”
“They can have their opinions, that’s fine. They need to state that it is their opinion and that it is not a fact,” she went on. “Because of their constant lies, a man lost his life over it. Because of the constant hateful rhetoric of calling him a fascist, and a Nazi, and a white supremacist and a bigot — the same thing that they called you — this man is dead.”
Earlier this year, former State Department official Mike Benz had caught the attention of Elon Musk who agreed it was time to “Restore the Smith-Mundt act!” after criticism of Obama’s amendment had reached “The Joe Rogan Experience” audience in light of the Department of Government Efficiency’s exposure of waste, fraud and abuse at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
Benz had argued to Joe Rogan that the Obama administration’s changes to the law, aimed at preventing domestic broadcasts from spreading propaganda produced for foreign audiences, had opened up the door “to do this cloak and dagger to infiltrate and co-opt the universities, the unions, the media, the politicians, the judges, the whole swarm army.”
Meanwhile, as the mother went on to start a Change.org petition calling for the Smith-Mundt Act to be reimplemented as the Charlie Kirk Act — surpassing 2,000 signatures at the time of this post, she expressed how it would be a “great legacy” for Kirk should a law be enacted “to force journalists to finally start telling the truth and having the integrity that they have lacked for over a decade,” and that it should also impact social media content creators “who consistently spread lies, and propaganda and half truths across the internet.”
“This needs to end and people need to start being held accountable for baseless claims over absolute abysmal things. It needs to end … and start holding these news corporations — be they right, left or center — accountable for their behavior,” she added before thanking those who listened to her appeal as her message was spread and lawmakers and those with large platforms were tagged to try and get the ball rolling.
@timburchett this would be a fine mantle for you and @RepLuna to pick up.
