President Donald Trump suggested Monday that he has reached a deal with China regarding TikTok as the deadline for the U.S. deciding to acquire the app or shut it down approaches.
The president wrote on TruthSocial that the U.S. meeting with China in Europe went “VERY WELL.” Trump added that they made a deal on a “certain” company young Americans care a lot about.
“The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America, and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly,” Trump wrote.
“A deal was also reached on a ‘certain’ company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy! I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!!!” he continued before signing off.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told reporters Monday that they have the “framework” for a TikTok deal.
“The two leaders, [President Trump] and Party Chair Xi, will speak on Friday to complete the deal,” Bessent said.

In July, Trump had said that the U.S. had “pretty much” reached a deal for an American company to acquire TikTok’s U.S. assets, but nothing developed. An earlier deal had fallen through after Trump announced his “Liberation Day” tariffs.
Trump extended the deadline for TikTok’s China-based parent company ByteDance to divest its U.S. assets or face shutdown in May to Sept. 17. The president has extended the deadline three times, and seemed poised to do it again Sunday. (RELATED: Trump Kicks TikTok Can Down Road For 75 More Days As American Firms Vie For App)
“I may or may not, we’re negotiating TikTok right now. We may let it die, or we may, I don’t know, it depends, up to China,” Trump told reporters. “It doesn’t matter too much. I’d like to do it for the kids.”
