RON HART: The Legacy Of Charlie Kirk

Charlie Kirk espoused the belief that the battle on campuses was one of ideas and intellectual discourse. He invited honest debate which led to understanding of other’s opinions and made them rationalize their own.

Charle Kirk took a one-semester look at college and saw it for what it has become: a leftist indoctrination factory, expensive, unaccountable, antithetical to reality and destructive to the American way. He then charted a different course, one that many young and disillusioned college students value.

Charlie Kirk provided an intellectual refuge for the many college students who sought the truth. They did not want to be shamed by the educational industrial complex for their independence of thought. Instead of being punished, embarrassed, and called racist or a Nazi for seeking the facts, Charlie Kirk and his Turning Point USA gave them a home. Charlie’s followers were not the compliant students, willing to compromise principle for an ‘A’ from a liberal professor. They did not take all the COVID shots prescribed by government or believe white supremacy was our nation’s biggest problem, as Biden told them. They questioned the dogma of Global Warming and learned to think independently.

They are hardworking kids with conservative values who felt at odds with tenured professors and the burgeoning administrative state in most of our colleges. Charlie gave students assurance that they were not alone, irrational or unworthy because they did not capitulate to the doctrine of the left.

Colleges had become a projection of liberal values of the most “AOC wing” of the left. The curators of the norms are DEI officers, CRT enthusiasts, and the Praetorian Guard enforcers of one ideology. Conservative students are talked down to in ways that are condescending, arrogant and bullying. The conformist students will sell their soul to get an ‘A’. Other kids would not.

Charlie offered them a different mindset, one of open and honest debate, listening to others’ ideas and being prepared to defend your own. He did it with intellect and respect, and for that, the left had no answer but to revert to type and kill him.

CRT and DEI have determined that you are racist from the start if you are white. You have never owned slaves, yet you are guilty because of your skin color. Any self-respecting person should reject this as racist, illogical and self-serving.  So, students had a choice: conform to the college thinking, appease their professors for good grades, and get out of college with inordinate student loan debt (usually ill-prepared for the real world of work).

At my Goldman Sachs reunion, (a firm that almost exclusively hired Ivy League MBAs in my day), they told us that they no longer do that. Instead, in their own careful corporate way, GS intimated that the longer a person stayed in college, the more entitled and indoctrinated he or she became and thus, less valuable as an employee.

You hear leftists say Charlie was transphobic because he did not believe a 12-year-old should mutilate his body without parental consent on a teacher’s hunch that he was trans. They hated Charlie because they said he was anti-gay and anti-trans. These are the same people who support hardline Muslims of Hamas and Palestinians who throw gays off buildings and kill trans people. Square that one.

The left teaches kids to hate their country, their religion, intact families and heritage. Moreover, they are compelled to hate themselves for even being born. Charlie and most of us reject that. Intellectual refugees from campus culture fled to the thinking of Charlie Kirk. Rejecting the intellectual dogma presented them as the only way, they were taught to think for themselves, something oppressive governments and colleges do not like.

Then the left says the Kirk shooter was a right-winger. But wait!  His lover had a penis. But still they went down that road to massage the political narrative to their advantage. The shooter, (and I refuse to say his/her name) clearly was indoctrinated with the Reddit/Discord part of the dark web that made him want to kill the right-winger Charlie Kirk. For the left to even say this shows you just how disconnected from reality and fact they are. A dark underbelly of the web, Discord, and other sites work to radicalize our youth. With the help of the victimization mindset of the media, they begin to believe the nihilism of the trolls on the left. I am not sure that our foreign adversaries (Russia and China come to mind), or Soros-type NGOs might not be in the shadows psychologically manipulating these shooters.

Sorry. I write op-ed humor, but this one is not funny and cannot be made so. Losing Charlie Kirk to the hatred of the left hurts, but we hope his legacy lives on.
