It’s Friday, and I guess I should shift down from sixth gear to just … fifth gear.

Today, I’m willing to demonstrate grace, but there’s a giant if attached to it.

APOLOGY ACCEPTED. NOW GROVEL

There’s been much ado lately about Jimmy Kimmel. This is, in part, about the media desperately looking for something to talk about other than Kirk. They’re choosing steadier ground. I can’t blame them.

News leaking out of the network after Kimmel’s firing isn’t good. Network heads reportedly wanted Kimmel to go on air and apologize to Kirk, which would have been the good and decent thing to do.

Kimmel refused.

He wanted instead to “clarify” his lie that Kirk was killed by a racist MAGA supporter and then double down on attacking people who criticized his comments.

If that sounds like a non-apology, that’s because it is.

Before I get into the circumstances under which I’d support Kimmel going back on air, let me just throat-clear a bit: I’m on record saying that the FCC should not have commented. I could be wrong about that — maybe there’s some non-evil intent there, but in general, I’m against government censorship.

That’s also not exactly how it all went down, despite liberal media delusions.

Now that we have that out of the way, here are my conditions for Jimmy’s return:

I don’t just want an apology. That’s too easy. I’m supposed to care about a millionaire late-night host when so many other lives were ruined this past decade? 

No, I want him to grovel. I want them all to grovel. I want him to tear up like he did over vaccines and spend five minutes groveling to Erika Kirk and her fatherless children.

Then I want him to get down on his knees, avert his eyes, and apologize for the censorship-and-repression regime he and many others wrought on all of us. All of it.

Apologize first to Tucker, whose grave you danced on. I want to hear you say it, “I’m sorry, Tucker Carlson. I was wrong, and you did not deserve that treatment.”

Then I want you to apologize to everyone else. If it helps, make a list.

Apologize to Rosanne Barr and Gina Carano. Apologize to Kyle Rittenhouse. Apologize to normals. Apologize to the COVID vax skeptics. Apologize to the lab-leak hypothesists. Apologize to James Damore, Justine Sacco, and Nicholas Sandmann. Apologize to Emmanuel Cafferty, an energy worker who got fired for cracking his knuckles in the shape of an OK sign. Apologize to Lt. William Kelly, who was fired for donating $25 to Rittenhouse. Apologize on CNN’s behalf to Florine Gruen, the Florida woman whose lawn was traipsed upon so the network could accuse her — live on air! — of being a Russian stooge for the sin of posting pro-Trump memes on Facebook.

Apologize for every conservative who was deplatformed by the left’s censorship apparatus. Admit it was all a grave mistake. Aggressively call for the constellation of nonprofit “misinformation” trackers to be destroyed. Aggressively call for universities to purge their most illiberal elements and reform their hiring and admissions practices. Aggressively call for the networks and your very own bosses to retract and correct their heinous censorship jihad against conservative voices.

Shout from the rooftops that we were right, you were wrong, and that you will promise never to cross that line again.

Do it and be compelling while you’re doing it. I want you to really sell it. I want real tears for the livelihoods, careers, and very lives that were taken by your truly corrosive attempt to coerce the public into RightThink.

Do that, and I’ll accept your apology. Don’t, and all I have to say is good luck on YouTube.
