UCF Offensive Line Coach Shawn Clark Dead At 50

Shawn Clark, the offensive line coach for the UCF Knights, has passed away almost two weeks following his hospitalization after suffering from a medical emergency, according to an announcement Monday from the university. He was 50 years old.

Clark’s health problem came Sept. 9, and since then, he hasn’t been with the Knights. Recently, it was stated that Clark was stable while in the hospital. At that time, the school nor football program disclosed what his condition was officially. (RELATED: Three-Time Super Bowl Champion Jim Fahnhorst Dead At 66)

“Shawn was so much more than a coach,” said UCF head coach Scott Frost in an official statement, per ESPN. “He was a remarkable man, husband, and father who cared deeply about his players and staff. The reaction of our players and coaches to the news this morning is a testament to Shawn’s character and the impact he had on every life that he touched. He was loved.”

Clark became a part of the UCF program after spending five seasons as the Appalachian State head coach.

From 2019-2024, he led the Mountaineers football program, racking up a 40-24 overall record at his alma mater. He made four bowls as the Appy State skipper, tallying a 3-1 record to win the Myrtle Beach Bowl, New Orleans Bowl and Cure Bowl.

“We are profoundly saddened by the passing of App State alumnus, football All-American and former head coach Shawn Clark. We extend our deepest sympathy to Shawn’s family and everyone who knew and loved him,” said Appalachian State in a Twitter post.
