A Brazilian state court ruled against a mother who sought to homeschool her son in line with her family’s religious beliefs.
The mother, Regiane Cichelero, has lost her case at the highest court in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina, but she plans to appeal to the highest court in the nation.
The state court insisted she comply with mandates to have her son enrolled in an officially accredited school and imposed legal penalties totalling around $20,000 USD.
Cichelero began homeschooling her son in 2020 after schools closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
