Authorities Launch Manhunt For Accused Murderer Who Was Accidentally Released From Jail Due To Clerical Error

Authorities in Oregon are searching for an accused murderer mistakenly released from jail Monday after what officials described as a clerical error.

Ty Anthony Sage, charged with second-degree murder and first-degree robbery, walked out of the Multnomah County Jail despite a judge’s order that he be held without bail, according to KGW 8 News. Judge Bryan Francesconi had ruled on Sept. 17 that Sage should remain in custody after hearing evidence in the 2021 killing of 15-year-old Lowgunn Ivey, The Oregonian reported. The sheriff’s office acknowledged Sage’s release paperwork incorrectly listed bail at $5,000 and said an internal investigation is underway.

Bret Weisberg, a spokesperson for the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, told the Daily Caller that deputies are working with other agencies to find Sage.

“The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) is currently working with law enforcement to locate and safely take 26-year-old Ty Anthony Sage into custody following his release from the Multnomah County Detention Center (MCDC),” he said.

He confirmed Sage posted bail and was released Monday after a court order mistakenly listed his bail at $5,000. Weisberg added that deputies had sought clarification from the court but processed the release in good faith.

The Multnomah County Sherriff’s Office recognizes that we hold the ultimate responsibility for a person’s release from custody. In this case, the defendant should not have been able to post bail,” he said.

Weisberg said the sheriff’s office is reviewing the mistake to prevent it from happening again and urged the public to call 911 with any information on Sage’s whereabouts.

Sage and Kevin Rivas-Ramirez, both 26, were arrested in May in connection with the December 2021 robbery that left 15-year-old Lowgunn Ivey dead and two other wounded, the outlet reported.

Multnomah County Sheriff Nicole Morrisey O’Donnell called Sage’s release “unacceptable” during a Wednesday press conference.

“That should not have happened. In this case, we fell short,” O’Donnell said.
