Authorities confirmed that a gunman opened fire at a federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Dallas, Texas, on Wednesday, killing two detainees and injuring another before turning the weapon on himself.
The suspect was identified as 29-year-old Joshua Jahn.
Officials reported that Jahn targeted federal vehicles outside the facility and carried ammunition marked with anti-ICE messaging.
Investigators stated that his attack appeared to be politically motivated.

According to public records and interviews, he came from a family that has been openly supportive of left-leaning political causes.
Reports noted that his sister had publicly backed Beto O’Rourke, while his mother had advocated for stricter gun control measures.
Jahn’s brother, however, told NBC News that he was surprised by the incident and downplayed his sibling’s views on federal immigration enforcement.
“I didn’t think he was politically interested,” Noah Jahn said.
“He wasn’t interested in politics on either side as far as I knew. He didn’t have strong feelings about ICE as far as I knew.”
Federal investigators recovered evidence linking Jahn to anti-ICE sentiment, including markings on the ammunition he used.
Also, I have seen a Google profile that belonged to the Dallas anti-ICE gunman. It had communist symbols on the avatar.

Despite his brother’s statements, authorities have pointed to those details as an indication of his motive.
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Jahn was armed with a rifle during the attack but added that he ultimately took his own life before he could be taken into custody.

The attack prompted an immediate law enforcement response.
ICE agents, along with local police, secured the area and transported the injured to a nearby hospital.
One of the victims was later pronounced dead, while the other two remained under medical care.
The incident quickly drew national attention, with federal authorities continuing to investigate whether Jahn acted alone or had been influenced by broader anti-ICE rhetoric that has surfaced in recent years.
Officials emphasized that the safety of detainees and personnel remains a priority and that additional security measures are under review following the shooting.
The Dallas facility is one of several in Texas that hold detainees awaiting immigration proceedings.
Attacks against federal immigration agencies have been rare, but officials acknowledged that tensions over immigration policy have occasionally led to threats or acts of violence directed at government facilities.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement is working to piece together Jahn’s activities in the days leading up to the attack, as well as any communications that may shed further light on his decision to target the ICE facility.
Authorities have not released details about the firearm’s origin or whether Jahn had a prior criminal record.
The Dallas shooting marks the latest in a series of incidents highlighting risks faced by federal immigration enforcement operations across the country.
Officials are expected to release additional information as the inquiry develops and as families of the victims are notified.
