State Of Emergencies Issued For Myrtle Beach, South Carolina Ahead Of Potential Hurricane

Home to iconic vacation spot Myrtle Beach, Horry County and other communities in South Carolina issued state of emergencies Friday ahead of a potential hurricane. As a tropical storm is currently looking to develop, Invest 94L has been redesignated as Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 (PTC9).

Joining Horry County, located on South Carolina‘s northeastern coast, in issuing their own state of emergencies were North Myrtle Beach and Conway, which are both located in the county, according to local outlet WMBF.

Charleston County has also issued a state of emergency. (RELATED: Insane Video Shows Bangkok Road Collapsing To Create Gargantuan Sinkhole In ‘End Of World’ Moment)

The declarations come ahead of a possible hurricane that’s being monitored in the Atlantic Ocean. As of now, forecasters are looking into the potential development of a tropical storm. The Carolinas could see heavy rain, strong winds and flood threats from the system.

Gov. Henry McMaster also issued a state of emergency for the entire state of South Carolina.

As Hurricane Humberto roars in the Atlantic Ocean, the storm that triggered the state of emergencies, Potential Tropical Cyclone 9, is expected to form into a tropical storm in the next few days. Models show the system developing to Humberto’s west, which will be around the southern Bahamas.

If PTC9 forms into a named storm, it will become Tropical Storm Imelda, and then graduate to Hurricane Imelda if it reaches sustained winds of 74 mph.
