Is the Rapture Imminent? Why ‘Tremors of Revival’ Spark One Major Fear – Faithwire

Christian college president Judge Phil Ginn believes revival could be on the horizon, citing recent events on college campuses as evidence of the increased spiritual excitement many are witnessing.

Ginn, president of Southern Evangelical Seminary in Rock Hill, South Carolina, told CBN News earlier this year that there are several markers he believes indicate a revival could be afoot. The first is prayer.

“People have been praying for a long time,” he said. “There’s never been, in the history of the world, where revival is broken out, that prayer didn’t precede it.”

These fervent prayers of the faithful, he believes, could be yielding fertile ground.

“I think we’re seeing some tremors of revival already in place,” Ginn continued. “A lot of it’s happening on college campuses.”

From the Asbury revival in 2023 to more recent campus mass baptisms, the college president is correct to note many of these moves of the faithful are “student-led.”

“I’m one of these folks that believes the Lord’s gonna come back pretty soon, and I firmly believe that, before He does, there will be a revival to include as many people in His church at the point of rapture as possible,” Ginn said.

Ultimately, he believes the time is simply right for revival, and Ginn said he’s excited by the prospect. But while Southern Evangelical Seminary and other Christian groups are prepared to meet the spiritual needs that a revival would spark, Ginn said he also has some worries.

“My only concern … is that I don’t think the church is ready for it,” he said, noting the incredibly small percentage of people who have a biblical worldview. “For one thing, you’ve got 6% of the people who are Christians in America who have a biblical worldview … you’ve got 51% of the pastors in America and evangelical churches who have a biblical worldview.”

Ginn said it’s damaging if Christians don’t reverse these trends, noting that, in his view, most churches fail at instilling proper discipleship programs. His concern centers on what happens if there’s a sudden surge of young people wanting to embrace the Gospel.

“The revivals that we’re seeing may be, to some extent, explosions of emotion,” he said. “And to offset that, you’ve gotta have a strong body of Christ.”

As for the tremors of revival Ginn discussed, he was clear he doesn’t believe revival itself has started, as he contends there will be no question it has commenced once the signs are fully present.

“I think if there had been a … start of a revival, we would know it,” he said. “It wouldn’t be any question in our mind, because I think it’s gonna be something like we’ve never seen my lifetime, at least. But I think we’re seeing the tremors that occur before an earthquake, if you will.”

He encouraged people to visit the Southern Evangelical Seminary website for training tools and a discipleship program he believes will help equip churches to be ready for revival.
