Starmer’s right-hand man Darren Jones has refused to say Labour’s manifesto pledge that there would be no taxes on ‘working people’ – including VAT, income tax and national insurance rises – will still stand in the budget. Pressed on Sky News, he said:
“Today the manifesto stands. The budget is not until November the 26th. So, we’re not going to say at party conference today what the budget is…Well, the manifesto stands today because decisions haven’t been taken yet. We’ve got forecasts coming. We don’t know what those say yet…I’m not ruling anything out or anything in.”
