Trump responds to team Europe taunting him over Ryder Cup victory

President Donald Trump posted a response to some playful taunting by Rory McIlroy and his teammates.

The European men grouped up to rib the president over their victory at the 45th Ryder Cup, after eking out a win over the United States. The Americans were on their way to staging a comeback, but Europe managed to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, marking their “first win on American soil since 2012,” according to The New York Post.

Trump responded in good humor, as the men sang “Are you watching? Are you watching Donald Trump?” while holding their gold trophy triumphantly.

“Yes, I’m watching. Congratulations!” the president responded on Truth Social.

Trump also loves the sport of golf, making it unlikely he would ever miss such a big day for the sport. He arrived at Farmingdale Golf Club on Friday with his granddaughter, Kai Trump, who is also an avid lover of golf. Unfortunately, the American team just couldn’t pull off the win and ended up losing by a slim margin of 15-13.

“Down by a record Sunday margin and staring at their worst home defeat in 98 years, the US stormed back with 5½ points in the first seven matches and tied a singles record — only for Shane Lowry’s decisive 6-foot putt on 18 to end the comeback moments after Russell Henley missed his chance to win,” the Post reported.

“Lowry — the No. 24 golfer in the world — clinched the Ryder Cup and provided the final blow to American fans, some of whom were heckling and taunting the European team,” the article added. “McIlroy — No. 2 in the world — took the brunt of the heckles and taunts during Saturday’s four-ball match.”

In fact, tensions grew so high that McIlroy ended up snapping at fans on the sidelines, taking time to step back from his shot and tell them to “shut the f**k up.”

Following his victory, he made it very clear that he thought that the hecklers were engaging in “unacceptable” behavior.

“I think golf should be held to a higher standard than what was seen out there this week. Golf has the ability to unite people. … It teaches you how to respect people. Sometimes this week, we didn’t see that. So, no, this should not be what is acceptable in the Ryder Cup,” he said.

There is even a video that purports to show someone lobbing a drink at McIlroy and his wife:
