Randi Weingarten forced to respond to eye-opening leaked email from her assistant

A bombshell leaked email from an assistant to national teachers’ union president Randi Weingarten has revealed concerns about New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.

School choice advocate Corey DeAngelis posted about the “leaked” email from Weingarten’s aide at the American Federation of Teachers, Leo Casey, who questioned Mamdani’s “ability to govern,” and pointed to progressive Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson as an example of the failure of far-left policies.

The posts shared on X prompted responses from the ATF chief and assistant.

Casey’s email was sent to a Democratic Socialists of America group back in May, according to the posts from DeAngelis.

“A lot of our discussion here is on blocking [ex-Gov. Andrew] Cuomo and winning the election, which is important,” read part of the email that was sent just weeks before the June 24 Democratic primary, which Mamdani won.

“But the ability to govern also needs to be an important consideration,” Casey wrote in the email. “And winning an election does not necessarily translate into the ability to govern.”

“It is important to face squarely what happened,” the message continued, making reference to Johnson’s dismal approval ratings in Chinago. “It has not gone well.”

“Because Johnson was our candidate, there is no public discussion on the left of what went wrong,” he wrote.“But something has clearly gone wrong and it can’t just be attributed to our enemies.”

He pointed to the Chicago mayor’s poll numbers to make the case.

The United Federation of Teachers in New York City endorsed Mandani following the primary, evidently ignoring his controversial plans for the city’s school system.

The X thread by DeAngelis noted Casey’s background, as well as sharing that Weingarten’s assistant confirmed the email.

“Leo Casey was paid $234,400 last year,” DeAngelis wrote. “He confirmed the authenticity of the leaked message from him concerning Zohran Mamdani’s ‘ability to govern’ and that ‘something has clearly gone wrong’ with Mayor Brandon Johnson in Chicago.”

Soon, Weingarten also chimed in.

“Randi Weingarten weighs in trying to defend her “Assistant” making $234,400 a year, but she doesn’t say anything substantive, and she turned off her comments,” DeAngelis shared, along with his response.

“Leo’s statement speaks for itself,” Weingarten said. “Sadly, it’s not a surprise Corey would try to drag me into something. He’s obsessed with attacking unions & smearing me. It’s not hard to figure out my views about Mamdani — I am a fan. “
