Prize draws such as Macdonald’s Monopoly are fuelling gambling problems, according to a new report published by GambleAware.
The report says there has been a significant increase in the number of people experiencing problems with gambling, and children’s exposure to gambling ads was judged as especially concerning.
GambleAware has warned that prize draws have ‘many similarities to certain types of gambling’, the risks associated with them may not be understood, and that they normalise gambling, particularly for young people and children.
Responding to the findings, Gambling Policy Lead at Christian charity CARE, Tim Cairns (pictured), said, ‘Demand for treatment for gambling-related harms has skyrocketed over the past five years.
