Healing Contentious Relationships is an exposition of the fourth chapter of James.

Summing up James’s teaching in this chapter, Parr writes, ‘He has shown us how our pride and unbelief exalt our desires to the degree that we create strife because of them. He has shown us how to repent and resolve the conflict we cause, and he has added some additional help showing us how pride is a disease that pervades our souls and manifests itself in subtle but God-dishonouring ways.’ He adds, ‘It is a remarkably helpful chapter.’

Parr’s exposition of the chapter is helpful too, especially as it bears on his principle concern. Contentions arise in friendships, the home, and in the church. What’s at the root of them? And how can healing come?
