Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) has come out swinging on the James Comey indictment, and nobody is surprised which side she’s on.
The senator is considered a “moderate” Republican who often sides with Democrats and speaks out against President Donald Trump’s agenda. This has made her quite popular on the left, where she’s considered one of the last good members of the GOP.
So it should come as no surprise that she is against the Comey indictment and is using the moment to question the independence of the Department of Justice.
On Monday, she shared an article on the action to X and added her own commentary:
The Department of Justice has long been insulated from presidential administrations to protect public trust in the rule of law. But that independence is called into question when overt political pressure from the White House leads to unusual personnel changes and criminal charges…

“The Department of Justice has long been insulated from presidential administrations to protect public trust in the rule of law. But that independence is called into question when overt political pressure from the White House leads to unusual personnel changes and criminal charges filed just days after the President calls for them,” she wrote.
“Former FBI Director James Comey, like any American, is entitled to the presumption of innocence and a fair trial. As the legal process moves forward, I expect the DOJ to act in accordance with the Constitution and federal law, and to demonstrate that this case is being handled free from political interference. The strength of our democracy rests on the public’s trust in equal justice under law. If Americans come to believe that federal prosecutions are driven by politics rather than facts and evidence, the damage will be difficult to undo.”
X users had a lot to say about this:
Really?
Then how do you explain this, Lisa?https://t.co/HqVmWdrS5e

Your moral compass is so broken you will never find your way back.

I don’t recall any objections from you when Biden approved the raid on Mar-A-Lago, when President Trump, and all members of his cabinet were targeted, or when his lawyers were persecuted….
