A high-ranking Latin King street gang member who lives in Chicago reportedly placed a bounty on a top Border Patrol official.
Latin Kings boss Juan Espinoza Martinez, 37, used Snapchat to offer a “10k” reward to anyone who could take down Border Patrol official Gregory Bovino, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The Chicago Sun-Times learned this by reading a federal criminal complaint that was filed against Martinez this week. The complaint accused him of having targeted “a senior law enforcement member of the Border Patrol Operation ‘Midway Blitz’ in Chicago.”
But a federal law enforcement source later confirmed to the paper that the target was specifically Mr. Bovino.

“Bovino has played a high-profile role in Trump’s deportation campaign,” the Sun-Times notes. “He recently led a patrol through Downtown Chicago and River North.”
Martinez was formally arrested on Monday and charged with one count of solicitation of murder-for-hire.
According to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) press release, they learned of Martinez’s threat through a confidential source who gave them a screenshot of the Snapchat conversation in which he’d placed two bounties — $2,000 for info on Bovino, and $10,000 for his murder.
The source also revealed that Martinez had dispatched a group of his underlings to intervene after an immigration agent had opened fire on a woman who’d used her car to box in his team.
“In that conversation, Martinez allegedly said ‘let’s get some guys out here bro,’” according to the Chicago Tribune. “The other person wrote back, ‘Let one of us be infront with the (green gun emoji).’”

Officials slammed Martinez following his arrest.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said Martinez’s behavior was an “attack on the rule of law and on every American who depends on law enforcement to keep them safe.”
“This case is exactly what we mean when we say Take Back America — taking back every neighborhood and street corner from violent thugs and criminal gangs and returning them to the law-abiding members of our communities,” he added.
“Depraved individuals like Juan Espinoza Martinez – who do not value human life and threaten law enforcement– do NOT belong in this country,” DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement. “We will not allow criminal gangs to put hits on U.S. government officials and our law enforcement officers.”
“Thanks to ICE and our federal law enforcement partners, this thug is off our streets and behind bars. These attacks on our brave law enforcement officers must END. Secretary Noem has been crystal clear: If you threaten or lay a hand on law enforcement, you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” she added.
U.S. Attorney Andrew S. Boutros, meanwhile, called the plot “an attack on the rule of law.”
“Putting a price on the life of a law enforcement officer is an attack on the rule of law,” he said. “The defendant’s actions in this case demonstrate a profound contempt for human life and public safety. Under my leadership, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago will hold defendants accountable for their grave criminal actions and ensure that no federal officer has to fear for their life for doing their job.”
Martinez’s arrest came after a violent weekend during which immigration officials were outright attacked.

“On Saturday, federal agents arrested two people accused of ramming government vehicles,” according to Fox News. “One suspect, Marimar Martinez, was shot and wounded; the other, Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, was taken into custody in a separate but similar incident.”
