A Texas man who calls himself the “dopest lawyer in town” was reportedly charged Saturday with a misdemeanor for allegedly driving around his girlfriend’s neighborhood while intoxicated.
A witness said Daniel Mehler, a cannabis lawyer from San Antonio, threw things at his girlfriend’s house and was driving around, My San Antonio.com reported, citing a warrant for his blood bearing the signature of an officer.
“When we arrived at the location, [Mehler] was standing outside. He claimed that his girlfriend was refusing to see him,” the warrant read.
Mehler refused to take a sobriety test but reeked of alcohol and was slurring his speech, the officer said. Mehler claimed his slurred speech was the result of a “speech impediment” but police said he was unable to remain steady on his feet and had red and glassy eyes.

Mehler also allegedly had less than 20 units of a schedule 1-A drug on his person and faces a felony drug possession charge, according to My San Antonio.com. While the type of alleged drug was not specified, this schedule of drugs typically includes heroin, LSD, cannabis and ecstasy, according to the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA).
San Antonio Police Department officers allegedly discovered three small paper tabs inside a gum wrapper when they arrested Mehler, according to KSAT. Mehler, 40, was let go on bond Sunday from the Bexar County Jail and is scheduled to be arraigned in November. The Saturday incident is not Mehler’s first offense. He was arrested and charged with sexual assault in July 2024, according to court records, The charges were dismissed after a grand jury lacked enough evidence to indict Mehler, KSAT reported in March 2025.
Mehler’s website says he focuses on criminal defense efforts on cannabis-related issues, such as possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence and driving while intoxicated. The website also calls him “the dopest lawyer in town.” He has been engaged in the practice of law since May 2013, the State Bar of Texas said.
The Daily Caller has reached out to Mehler’s law office and the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office for comment.
