Water minister Emma Hardy said the government “absolutely did not” pressure the CPS into dropping the Chinese spy case. Despite the DPP saying Labour failed to provide evidence that could have shown the accused spies were aligned to a hostile state…
She said on Sky News:
“We as a government are incredibly disappointed that it has been dropped. Nothing to do with [Jonathan Powell], nothing to do with ministers whatsoever. That is completely false.”
Meanwhile MPs are expected to question MI5 officers – who wanted the prosecution to go ahead – in an intelligence and security committee meeting. It could lead to an investigation. No10 can’t hold this line for much longer…
