Among Labour voters, 78% agree the government should avoid meddling in small business affairs. This comes as Labour’s Employment Rights Bill threatens to bury small firms under fresh red tape, with changes to unfair dismissal rules and Statutory Sick Pay piling on extra costs. Shadow Business Secretary Andrew Griffith said:
“This proves that real people back small business right across the political divide. The problem is that the Government simply aren’t listening. Instead of helping or even just getting out of the way, Labour have run a freight train through the ambitions of small businesses across the country.”
The polling also found 89% of Labour voters think the government should prioritise policies to support small businesses. Meanwhile, 49% of voters believe Labour is anti-business – including one in three Labour supporters. Reeves, take note…
