Blackwater founder Erik Prince has reportedly announced his intention to finance a private militia unit to defend Christians in Nigeria.
This was reported by La Gaceta, a conservative newspaper out of Spain, on Wednesday.
The paper also noted that Prince has asked Pope Leo XIV to consider funding his unit.
This request was made on the social media platform X on Oct 1:
@Pontifex Sir I have a better idea. Why don’t you fund my colleagues to protect Nigerian Christians from the marauding Muslims who are slaughtering them.

Prince made the request after a ridiculous video emerged of the pope blessing a block of ice for the sake of climate change.
Prince famously founded Blackwater in 1997. The company became famous — almost notorious, some would argue — for its work in Iraq and Afghanistan on behalf of the U.S. government.
Since the Iraq War, Prince has been advocating for the use of private contractors to assist in conflicts like the one in Nigeria, where Islamic radicals have been butchering Christian believers left and right.
La Gaceta notes that these attacks have been “concentrated in the central and northern regions of the country, where jihadist groups such as the Islamic State in West Africa (ISWAP), a subsidiary of ISIS, act with total impunity.”
“The tactics they use —massacres, suicide attacks, mass kidnappings or village fires— have been described as a true genocide by different international NGOs,” according to the paper.
Recent reports suggest that over 50,000 Christians have been murdered in the past 14 years.
Prince reportedly told the paper that Christians in Nigeria desperately need “an organized and professional defense,” not just humanitarian assistance or diplomatic BS.
“The objective is not to promote war, but to guarantee the survival of those who are persecuted for their faith,” he added.
Officials in Nigeria are ignoring and even facilitating the mass murder of Christians by Islamist jihadists.
It’s time to hold those responsible accountable. My Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act would target these officials with powerful sanctions and other tools.…

Several NGOs that recently spoke with Newsweek confirmed that Christians in Nigeria are “gradually being wiped out” because of death, displacement, and kidnapping by Islamists.
“If nothing is done in the next few years, Christianity will cease to exist in Nigeria,” International Society for Civil Liberties & Rule of Law founder Emeka Umeagbalasi said.
“That is the fear for most Christian Nigerians,” Christian human rights lawyer Jabez Musa added. “Gradually, Christians are being wiped out and churches have been destroyed.”
Liberal comedian Bill Maher recently brought attention to the crisis on HBO’s “Real Time,” telling his audience that Christians are being “systematically killed” in Nigeria.
Bill Maher delivers a surprising moment on air as he calls out the slaughter of CHRISTIANS in Nigeria that the media refuses to cover.
“If you don’t know what’s going on in Nigeria, your media sources SUCK,” Maher said.

The Trump State Department is aware of the crisis and is actively monitoring it.
“The United States remains deeply concerned about the levels of violence against Christians and members of other groups in Nigeria, including the threats posed by terrorist groups like Boko Haram and ISIS-West Africa in northern Nigeria,” a spokesperson told Newsweek. “We have raised these issues with the Nigerian government at the highest levels.”
“The Nigerian government must more effectively address the repeated attacks against vulnerable communities and ensure that its laws throughout the country are consistent with its commitment to religious freedom,” the spokesperson added.
Open Doors, a Christian advocacy group, has estimated that “more Christians are killed for their faith in Nigeria than in the rest of the world combined.”
Nigeria is the capital of Christian martyrdom today.
More than 7,000 Christians have been killed in 2025 alone.
Remember: ISIS killed around 5,000 Christians in Iraq and Syria during their reign of terror.
Do you get it now? This is genocide.

The Nigerian government has, for its part, repeatedly denied that there is anything untoward happening.
“Portraying Nigeria’s security challenges as a targeted campaign against a single religious group is a gross misrepresentation of reality,” the government said in a statement last month.
