A male Republican C-SPAN caller blamed former President Joe Biden for the ongoing government shutdown due to allowing millions of illegal immigrants to enter the country during his tenure.
Republicans have repeatedly accused Democrats of shutting down the government in an effort to fund healthcare for illegal migrants, although they have denied the allegations. The caller said on “Washington Journal” that the problem would not be so significant if not for Biden’s disastrous border policy.
WATCH:
“President Biden was the one who caused the government shutdown,” the caller said. “If we didn’t have 20 million invaders into this country, there wouldn’t be an issue of funding their medical care. So Biden is responsible by allowing all these illegals to invade the country.”
“If Biden hadn’t allowed all these illegals to cross the border and invade our country, then we wouldn’t be looking at funding anything about these people from emergency rooms to anything,” he added.
Speaker Mike Johnson on Thursday also pushed back on a Democratic C-SPAN caller on “Washington Journal” who alleged he was lying regarding illegal immigrants receiving Medicaid. Johnson cited the Congressional Budget Office (CBO), which estimated in June that around 1.4 million individuals who would be eliminated from the program under the reconciliation bill that President Donald Trump signed in July “would be people who do not meet citizenship and immigration status requirements for Medicaid enrollment but who would be covered under current law in programs funded by the states.”
Johnson also cited the Democrats’ counterproposal to the Republican-supported continuing resolution (CR), noting it “would reverse” a section in the July reconciliation bill that restricts illegal immigrants’ ability to receive Medicaid.
About 11 million border encounters occurred from February 2021 until December 2024, according to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) data.
A December analysis by The New York Times found that Biden presided over the greatest net migration in American history. It also found that a majority of U.S.-bound migration was unlawful.
