JD Vance Pushes Back Against ABC Host’s Fixation On ‘Weird Left-Wing Rabbit Hole’ Amidst Government Shutdown

Vice President JD Vance fired back Sunday at ABC host George Stephanopoulos for going down a “weird left-wing rabbit hole” by focusing on a “bogus story” rather than issues he believes matter to Americans.

Stephanopoulos repeatedly asked Vance on “This Week” if border czar Tom Homan accepted $50,000 in cash from Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents in 2024. The vice president told Stephanopoulos point-blank that few Americans trust his reporting because he is focusing on left-wing narratives rather than important issues, such as the government shutdown.

“Here’s, George, why fewer and fewer people watch your program and why you’re losing credibility: because you’re talking — for now five minutes — with the vice president of the United States about this story regarding Tom Homan, a story that I’ve read about, but I don’t even know the video that you’re talking about. Meanwhile, low-income women can’t get food because the Democrats and Chuck Schumer have shut down the government. Right now, we’re trying to figure out how to pay our troops because Chuck Schumer has shut the government. You are focused on a bogus story.”

You’re insinuating criminal wrongdoing against a guy who has done nothing wrong instead of focusing on the fact that our country is struggling because our government’s shut down. Let’s talk about the real issues, George. I think the American people would benefit much more from that than you going down some weird left-wing rabbit hole where the facts clearly show that Tom Homan didn’t in any criminal wrongdoing,” Vance continued. Stephanopoulos rejected Vance’s criticisms and accused him of not answering the question. As Vance started to respond, Stephanopoulos abruptly ended the interview while the vice president was in mid-sentence.

Vance later responded to the exchange on X, claiming Stephanopoulos does not care about the real issues.

“Peace in the Middle East? China threatening critical supply chains? Government shutdown? George S [sic] doesn’t care about that. He’s here to focus on the real story: a fake scandal involving Tom Homan,” Vance wrote.

The Democrats shut the government down Oct. 1 over their demand to extend Biden-era subsidies in the Affordable Care Act in exchange for their support to pass the funding bill. House Speaker Mike Johnson has repeatedly stated Congress can debate the tax credit extension after they pass a continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government.

Israel and Hamas formally agreed to the first phase of Trump’s proposed deal to end the war, which involves releasing all hostages and a withdrawal of Israel’s troops to a designated position in the Gaza Strip.
