Somebody needs to take anger management classes …
Aryna Sabalenka, the No. 1-ranked women’s tennis player in the world, nearly hit a ballboy with her racket in a ridiculously aggressive moment. It happened during a loss, and now that we’re here, she deserves it.
At first, it looked like Sabalenka was going to roll her way to victory over Jessica Pegula (United States) in their recent Wuhan Open semifinal matchup, getting the victory in the first set, 6-2. After that though, Pegula flipped the script, and Sabalenka couldn’t handle it whatsoever. Yeah, she might be a winner, but she’s a pretty sore loser as well. Following a 6-4 loss in the second set, Sabalenka took a 5-2 advantage in the last frame prior to getting clipped in three consecutive games. In the 11th game of the last set, that’s when the Belarusian exploded into anger, tossing her racket on the ground and in the direction of the bench where a ballboy was standing. The racket bounced off the bench, and almost popped the ballboy. He even had to move out of the way to avoid contact.
Surprisingly, Sabalenka was only given a warning over racket abuse. Putting her hand up, she seemingly apologized to the ballboy quickly while going to get her racket.
