Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Monday on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” that no one could expect former President Joe Biden’s Secretary of State Antony Blinken “to go off quietly” after he claimed President Donald Trump “built on” the former administration’s Israel-Hamas plan.
On Wednesday, Trump secured a historic peace deal between Israel and Hamas, just a day after the anniversary of the war that began on Oct. 7, 2023, under the Biden administration. Guest host Kayleigh McEnany read Blinken’s tweet aloud, noting that it made her “bristle.”
“Well, it doesn’t make me bristle. Look, the entire Democratic left wing is out of touch with reality and verges on crazy. Blinken is part of that group. Why would you think that he has any realistic sense of what happened?” Gingrich asked.

“They were a disaster in Afghanistan. They were a disaster in Ukraine. They were a disaster in the Middle East. They were a disaster in Venezuela,” Gingrich added. “Every time you turn around, left-wing Democrats do not understand the real world. They do not understand how it works. But you can’t expect Blinken to go off quietly.”
Under the Biden administration, the country faced several foreign policy challenges, including providing funding to Ukraine and Israel for their ongoing conflicts.
During the previous administration, the U.S. heavily supported Israel following the Hamas terrorist attack. Over four years, it provided an estimated $12.5 billion in direct military aid to Israel through legislation, according to the Council on Foreign Relations.
The Biden administration attempted to ease tensions with a proposed plan. Blinken posted on X Friday that Trump “adopted” and “built on” the Biden administration’s transition goals.
“It starts with a clear and comprehensive post-conflict plan for Gaza. It’s good that President Trump adopted and built on the plan the Biden Administration developed after months of discussion with Arab partners, Israel, and the Palestinian Authority,” Blinken wrote.
“It centers on temporary, transitional authorities for Gaza’s governance, security, humanitarian assistance, and rebuilding, led by Arab and international partners alongside Palestinians, backed by the United States, and ultimately handed over to full Palestinian control,” Blinken added.
In addition to receiving backlash, Russia eventually invaded Ukraine in February 2022. After the start of the invasion, the U.S.committed an estimated $56.3 billion in “security assistance to Ukraine through both presidential drawdown authority and the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative,” according to the Department of Defense as of September 2024.
