‘Not Going To Make That Comparison’: Liberal Panelist’s Comparison Of Trump To Hamas Too Much For Even Abby Phillip

“CNN NewsNight” host Abby Phillip stepped in Monday after a left-wing panelist claimed both President Donald Trump and the radical Islamic terrorist group Hamas were “democratically elected.”

Trump went on a whirlwind trip to Israel and Egypt, where he spoke before the Knesset and signed a peace accord with Arab leaders that ended Israel’s war with the radical Islamic terrorist group, arriving back in Washington, D.C., early Tuesday. Discussion on the show turned to Trump securing settlements with major universities over pro-Hamas protests tinged with antisemitism that erupted in protests that arose on college campuses after the Oct. 7, 2023, terrorist attack on multiple locations in southern Israel that killed over 1,200 people. “I say that’s not good. I say that’s a bad thing,” Washington Post reporter Josh Rogin claimed, with Salem Radio Network host Scott Jennings responding, “Did we have an election last year?”

“That doesn’t justify —” Rogin said as Jennings cut him off with, “Are we going to have one next year? And are we going to have one [in 2028]?”

After Jennings went back and forth with former independent presidential candidate Cornel West, Meidas Touch podcaster Adam Mockler jumped in.

“Hamas was elected democratically,” Mockler claimed, prompting Phillip to step in, saying, “All right. Okay. We’re not going to make that comparison at the table.”

“I just want it noted that your Democratic analyst compared Donald Trump’s election to Hamas’ election. Just for the record —” Jennings said, with Phillip interrupting him with, “All right, we are not going — we‘re not going to do that at the table tonight.”

In October 2024, Phillip removed conservative podcaster Ryan James Girdusky from the panel following former MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan’s complaints after Girdusky made a joke in the October 2024 tiff with Hasan that referenced an Israeli operation that targeted the radical Islamic terrorist group Hezbollah via altered pagers after Hasan called Girdusky a “Nazi.” She later addressed the exchange on-air after a commercial break, saying Girdusky was banned from CNN after Girdusky’s on-air clash with Hasan.

A review of the episode’s transcript shows Phillip did not chastise Hasan for comparing Trump supporters to Nazis.
