A dog in southern Connecticut was found abandoned and tied to a fence as the Northeast was blasted with a powerful nor’easter that dished out heavy rainfall and strong gusts of wind to the region.
Located in New Haven, an announcement was made by the Robin I. Kroogman New Haven Animal Shelter that a dog was discovered Monday abandoned in the nor’easter’s downpours with no shelter.
Photos of the dog show its leash tied to a chain-link fence while being surrounded by a soaked ground following days of heavy rain. (RELATED: 1 Dead, 51 Rescued After Powerful Typhoon Halong Remnants Devastate Alaska With Record-Setting Flooding)
According to officials from the shelter, this isn’t the first time the Connecticut town has dealt with this type of situation.
“This heartbreaking situation is, unfortunately, a recurring issue throughout our city of New Haven,” said the officials in a Facebook post.
They went on to state that the furry friend is now safe at the shelter.
If you have any information regarding who is responsible for putting the pup in danger, the shelter is asking that you contact them.
“Together, we can help ensure the safety and well-being of animals in our community and hold those accountable for such blatant neglect,” said officials.
The situation is reminiscent of Hurricane Milton in 2024 when a dog in Florida was abandoned during the Category 3 storm, being tied to a fence with water going all the way up to his stomach. Now named “Trooper” and given a new home, the former owner was charged with animal cruelty.
