As corporate media radio silence continued about a Virginia politician’s violent rhetoric, the vice president silenced those “pearl clutching” over a “college group chat” with a scathing post.
In the nearly two-week span since former Virginia Del. Jay Jones (D) “two bullets to the head” text message had been exposed, media bias persisted as the story received next to no coverage and talking heads showed no interest in pressuring politicians to call for the nominee to drop out of the race for attorney general.
Now, as a trove of messages shared between leaders of Young Republican groups sparked outcry from the left over the use of slurs and alleged support for violent acts, Vice President J.D. Vance had gone viral for offering a reality check on the story broken by Politico.
“This is far worse than anything said in a college group chat, and the guy who said it could become the AG of Virginia,” wrote the vice president as he reshared part of Jones’ text messages that expressed hope a Republican lawmaker’s “little fascist” children would die. “I refuse to join the pearl clutching when powerful people call for political violence.”

Politico’s report referenced 2,900 pages of messages between a dozen young Republicans from January through August 2025 as part of a “campaign to seize control of the national Young Republican organization on a hardline pro-Donald Trump platform. Many of the chat members already work in side government or party politics, and one serves as a state senator.”
The messages were portrayed as indicative of the upcoming crop of conservatives as the report stated, “The chat offers an unfiltered look at how a new generation of GOP activists talk when they think no one is listening.”
Worth noting, Jones’ rhetoric had continued even after he’d become aware that he was texting the wrong person about a fantasy scenario where then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert (R) would be executed while leaving Adolf Hitler and Pol Pot unscathed.
Further, Media Research Center’s NewsBusters had documented how, between the Sunday shows of ABC, CBS, NBC and PBS, only NBC News’ “Meet the Press” had broached the subject when former Vice President Mike Pence’s onetime chief of staff Marc Short brought it up, prompting a brief exchange with former senior advisor to then-President Joe Biden, Neera Tanden.
Tanden had dismissed the text messages of Jones as “a private conversation … but still awful and disgusting.”
In little more than half a day’s time, Vance’s exposure of the ongoing double standard on the left, weeks after many had cheered the assassination of Charlie Kirk, secured over 10 million views as he emphasized the position Jones would be in. Reactions from those aligned in shaming the pearl clutchers renewed calls for Jones to drop out while denouncing corporate media.

No one on the left ran to disavow him. No one on the left disavowed the ones cheering Charlie’s death but we should worry about what these guys said in private?
