Trump Blasts Colombia’s ‘Illegal Drug Leader’ Gustavo Petro, Yanks Foreign Aid After Criticism Of Boat Strikes

President Donald Trump announced Sunday in a Truth Social post that foreign aid to Colombia would halt after President Gustavo Petro criticized U.S. strikes on drug-trafficking boats.

Petro accused the United States of murder in a Saturday X post referencing a September strike on a boat American intelligence suspected was trafficking drugs to the U.S. Trump fired back in his post on Truth Social, saying the aid would end as Petra was engaging in “a long term rip off of America.” (RELATED: Secretary Hegseth Releases Latest Video Of Narco-Terrorists Getting Blown Up)

“President Gustavo Petro, of Colombia, is an illegal drug leader strongly encouraging the massive production of drugs, in big and small fields, all over Colombia,” Trump posted. “It has become the biggest business in Colombia, by far, and Petro does nothing to stop it, despite large scale payments and subsidies from the USA that are nothing more than a long term rip off of America. AS OF TODAY, THESE PAYMENTS, OR ANY OTHER FORM OF PAYMENT, OR SUBSIDIES, WILL NO LONGER BE MADE TO COLOMBIA.”

“The purpose of this drug production is the sale of massive amounts of product into the United States, causing death, destruction, and havoc,” Trump continued. “Petro, a low rated and very unpopular leader, with a fresh mouth toward America, better close up these killing fields immediately, or the United States will close them up for him, and it won’t be done nicely. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth released a video Sunday of the U.S. military striking a vessel of suspected drug traffickers at sea. Hegseth noted the boat’s three-man crew was tied to the National Liberation Army, also known as Ejército de Liberación Nacional (ELN), a Columbian terrorist group.

The U.S. military under President Trump has conducted multiple strikes against vessels suspected of running drugs since Sept. 2, when a boat carrying 11 members of the Venezuelan prison gang Tren de Aragua (TdA) was sunk. The strikes drew criticism by Democrats, as well as Republican Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, but the Senate blocked an effort to halt the strikes on Oct. 8.

Trump issued an executive order designating Mexican drug cartels, TdA, and the El Salvadoran prison gang MS-13 as foreign terrorist organizations hours after taking office Jan. 20, 2025.
