Former NFL running back Doug Martin died early Saturday while in Oakland police custody, officials said.

The 36-year-old, who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Oakland Raiders, was taken to a hospital after what authorities described as a “brief struggle” with officers, according to the East Bay Times. Police said they were called around 4:15 a.m. to reports of a break-in at a home on Ettrick Street, a residential area near the Oakland Zoo. (RELATED: Former WWE Champion Sir Mo Dead At 58)
