The Trump administration is asking the DoJ to file criminal charges against FEMA employees accused of politicizing emergency disaster relief.
A press release from DHS accused Biden-era FEMA officials of having “systematically refused aid to disaster survivors on purely political discrimination.”
The DHS also said former FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell wrongly testified when she claimed that a FEMA employee’s orders not to help houses with Trump signs in the wake of Hurricane Milton was an isolated case.
Furthermore, a 22-page report released by DHS on Tuesday stated FEMA “abuses were widespread, systematic, and occurred during multiple disasters dating back to Hurricane Ida in 2021.”

The report also accused FEMA of violating the Privacy ACT of 1974 by collecting political information about disaster victims.
“A lot of explicit political flags, posters, etc. ‘F**k Joe Biden’ ‘MAGA 2024’ ‘Joe Biden Sucks’ ‘TRUMP 2024,’” a worker allegedly noted in 2021 about a Pennsylvania residence, The Blaze reported. “We do not recommend anyone visiting this location.”
“Trump sign, no contact per leadership,” another FEMA employee in Florida allegedly wrote.
North Carolina resident and Hurricane Helene victim Matt Van Swol went into further detail about the explosive report:
FEMA staff weren’t just logging storm damage to people’s homes like they were supposed to… they logged what people believed.
“Trump signs.” “Pro-gun.” “Anti-Biden.”
These were things they put IN WRITING FOR FEMA CASES!!!

This wasn’t just Florida, it happened across the country, according to the report.
The same pattern showed up in multiple states between 2021-2024.

They said it was about “avoiding hostile homes.”
But DHS found FEMA never even defined what “hostile” meant.
So some staff just decided certain Trump signs made a home unsafe.
