Players Look On In Horror, Disgust As Rising NFL Star Cam Skattebo’s Ankle Snaps

New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo’s right ankle twisted grotesquely Sunday, sending Eagles players fleeing from the field and teammates turning away in disgust.

The rookie suffered a gruesome dislocation midway through the second quarter when his ankle caught underneath an Eagles defender during a pass play. His foot turned sharply to the right. Officials quickly ruled him out and medical staff transported him to a local hospital, the Giants announced in X.

Players on both sidelines knew immediately the injury was catastrophic. One Eagles player ran straight off the field. Several Giants refused to look at their teammate’s mangled ankle, ESPN reported. Quarterback Jaxson Dart, who became close friends with Skattebo, yelled in frustration.

Dr. Eric Friedman, a sports injury physician who serves as team doctor for USA Ski & Snowboard, posted on X that Skattebo suffered a season-ending open tibial fracture. The injury will require multiple surgeries, Friedman said. The running back could return for the 2026 season’s first week if complications don’t arise.

Tyrone Tracy Jr., who lost his starting job to Skattebo earlier this season, stayed with the injured player longest, according to the New York Post. Skattebo pointed toward supporters before the cart drove away.

The Arizona State product had scored his seventh touchdown on an 18-yard reception from Dart earlier in the game. He entered Sunday leading the Giants with 398 rushing yards.

The Giants offense already lost star receiver Malik Nabers to a torn ACL last month.
