Nancy Pelosi Chews Up 6 Minutes Claiming Democrats Didn’t Move America ‘Too Far To The Left’

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rambled for over six minutes during a Harvard Kennedy School discussion posted to YouTube on Tuesday while denying the Democratic Party moved America excessively far left.

Journalist Alison King, who moderated the discussion posted to the school’s YouTube channel, asked Pelosi whether she agreed with many Americans that Democrats went “too far to the left” on cultural issues, immigration or economic policy, citing the election outcome as evidence of a widespread sentiment. Pelosi immediately dismissed the idea and delivered lengthy remarks, during which she argued her party merely reflected Americans’ beliefs. “I think that we are a reflection of our country … Understand this isn’t about anything coming from on high. It’s about who we are. We are a beautiful, diverse country,” Pelosi said. “And if they find that offensive with their DEI [Diversity, Equity and Inclusion] initiatives and they want to sell it as ‘We’re all so left.’ It’s ridiculous … you can’t win from the left. You run from the center because that’s where you’re going to have to govern — from the center.”

“How can they be complaining if we want education for all of our children, whatever their ethnicity or if they’re newcomers to our country?” she added. “How could they be complaining if they say that schools want to … every white person in this room: you’re advantaged by every other person in this room because of the diversity.”

Pelosi then attempted to recount a speech by former President Ronald Reagan, claiming he argued for the necessity of immigration.

“Just Google the speech. I didn’t do it justice,” Pelosi acknowledged afterward. “It’s longer than that. I gave you the shorter version, believe it or not.”

“[T]here are certain people in the country who don’t want to see … women, LGBTQ people, people of color, immigrants taking their place in anything,” she said. “And that’s just the way it is. That’s their problem. That’s not America’s problem. America is this great country with this beautiful diversity.”

Pelosi also ranted about her Catholic views to claim she valued all different types of people — before appearing to attack Republicans while seeming to use a southern accent.

“You’re people of faith? You go to church on Sunday and pray in church on Sunday and prey on people the rest of the week. What is this? What is this?” she asked, laughing.

Pelosi suggested that Republicans won the 2024 election due to superior use of technology and communication rather than Democrats’ left-wing policies being unpopular.

Among Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents, 45% wanted the Democratic Party to become “more moderate,” according to Gallup polling released in February. Moreover, a May Puck/Echelon poll found that likely voters largely perceived the Democratic Party as “liberal, weak, corrupt.”
