Brawl Erupts During High School Football Playoff Game Leading To Player Blasting Opponent With His Own Helmet

Happening in Florida, a high school football postseason game between the Bell Bulldogs and Fernandina Beach Pirates ended up taking a violent turn as a brawl broke out, eventually escalating to a helmet turning into a weapon.

Each high school competes in the Sunshine State Athletic Association’s Atlantic League state championship division, and Friday night, they squared off in the playoff opener with Fernandina Beach dominating the game by a 48-21 score. However, the biggest headline of the game wasn’t related to football.

With only a few seconds to go in the game, the Bulldogs ran an offensive play to the sidelines in what would be the last one of the contest. As the play came to a conclusion, two players started fighting around the line of scrimmage.

Wearing No. 55, the player from Bell got into it with Fernandina Beach’s No. 23, with the former grabbing the facemask of the defender and then throwing a punch.

While the Bulldog was going for a second punch, the Pirate ended up losing his helmet with it going into the hands of the Bell player, and the latter immediately responded by smashing his opponent with his own helmet. Video appears to show the Fernandina Beach player getting hit in his jaw or upper chest, or both.

After the incident, several players from Fernandina Beach ran from the sideline to confront the Bell opponent, however, coaches and referees quickly intervened to deescalate the situation.
