Kemi Badenoch has marked her first year as Tory leader by revealing she wasn’t ‘out and about’ much during her early months because she was busy firefighting the party’s finances. Speaking on BBC Newscast, she admitted the Tories nearly ran out of money:
“But making sure that we survived is a good concern. Money, very, very important. Without money, a party can’t survive. “Yes, there was [a risk the party could have gone bust]. There was a point when all of the donors could just have thought, well, there’s no election, there’s nothing happening. And letting them know who I was and what I was about actually took quite a lot of my time. I think I’d like to have been out there a bit more. But if I’d been on TV and we ran out of money…”
Since then donations are back to about £3 million per quarter. Let the good times roll…
