Supporters of President Donald Trump would be willing to take a tax hit if it was the effect of a policy endorsed by the president, according to polling by Politico and Public First released Saturday.
The commissioners of the poll offered variations of two hypothetical laws to thousands of poll respondents, only altering the endorsements of the law in each variation. While the typical MAGA voter would not support legislation granting them a tax break if Trump and Republicans opposed it, they would support a bill imposing extra tax burdens if it was endorsed by them, according to the findings.
Additionally, laws only supposed by the GOP but not Trump performed much worse among poll respondents, with Trump supporters, on average, then only expressing a willing to take a much smaller tax hit. (RELATED: Trump Orders DOJ To Probe Meatpacking Industry, Slams ‘Illegal Monopolies’)

Conversely, the average poll respondents supporting former Vice President Kamala Harris would not embrace tax cuts if the hypothetical policy responsible for them was supported by Trump, unless the tax breaks exceeded $33 a month or more. The same respondents would also sacrifice the creation of more than 1,000 jobs in their state and a 40-cent cut to egg prices if Trump supported the hypothetical legislation.
Trump successfully channeled the loyalty and priorities of his coalition of supporters in both his presidential runs to reshape the political order, including the Republican Party. Trump, however, remains a divisive figure across party lines, with Democrats widely disapproving Trump’s presidency while also broadly disapproving of Democratic officials perceived as not doing enough to stifle his agenda.
Trump’s endorsement power had more than double the effect on respondents than that of Republican lawmakers alone, according to the polling experiment.
