Sergio Gor sworn in as U.S. ambassador to India

Sergio Gor was sworn in Monday as the U.S. ambassador to India and special envoy to South and Central Asia.

Ahead of the swearing in, Mr. Trump said he was confident Mr. Gor, a businessman who worked on the Trump campaign, would do “an outstanding job and make our country and all of his friends very proud.”

The president noted the importance of the job and India’s status as a vital economic and strategic security partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

“He’ll be a key emissary to a very important group of nations at the crossroads between East and West,” Mr. Trump said. “It’s a very important relationship.”

Mr. Gor’s appointment as ambassador comes as a rift has opened between India and the U.S. over Mr. Trump’s tariffs and his pressure on India to stop purchasing oil from Russia.

Mr. Gor previously served as head of presidential personnel appointment to help fill jobs in the Trump administration. He was formerly the CEO of Winning Team Publishing, which he co-founded with Mr. Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr., and ran a super PAC to support the president in 2024.

After being sworn in by Vice President JD Vance, Mr. Gor thanked the president for entrusting him with the position.

“This is an honor of a lifetime,” Mr. Gor said. “It’s just an incredible honor, and I look forward to enhancing the relationship between our two nations. Thank you for entrusting me with this position, and I look forward to doing a great job for you.”
