Kid Rock added a verse to Cody Johnson’s “Till You Can’t” in an emotional tribute to the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Kid Rock stood in for Johnson at Hondo Rodeo Fest on Nov. 8 while he recovered from surgery for a burst eardrum, Music Mayhem reported. He made it through a portion of Johnson’s song before pausing to explain the deep meaning behind the heartfelt lyric swap, and the inspirational moment that prompted him to make the change. The moment can be seen here in a clip shared on social media.
“Now, a few weeks ago, I woke up alone early on a Sunday morning and had this song stuck in my head,” Kid Rock told the crowd.

“And in that moment, someone or something spoke to me and told me there was still a verse missing from this song, and to get up and write it down.”
Kid Rock continued, “So I did. And now I know exactly who was speaking to me that morning,” he said as a photo of the Kirk appeared on the screens behind him.

“There’s a book that is sitting in your house somewhere that could use some dusting off/ There’s a man that died for all our sins/ hanging from the cross/ You can give your life to Jesus/ and he’ll give you a second chance/ ’til you can’t, ’til you can’t,” Kid Rock sang. The newly added faith-based verse was complimented by Kid Rock’s rhythmic strumming of an acoustic guitar. The famous singer closed out the song with Johnson’s original lyrics. The lights on the stage went dark as the song concluded — and Kirk’s image remained.
