Richard Tice, head of Reform’s DOGE and the party’s deputy leader, is in Westminster to talk about the project six months into running 12 councils. He wrote overnight in the Telegraph that progress wouldn’t be immediate:
“We did not say it would be all sorted in just six months. The harsh reality is around one in five of all councils are already in Extreme Financial Support.”
Tice says he is targeting three primary areas for savings:
- “Mismanagement, overcharging and underperformance of the local government pension scheme.”
- “Renegotiating contracts that come up for renewal.”
- “The special educational needs and disabilities (Send)” budget.
